Acute mountain sickness, most common at an altitude above 3000m, will challenge you along the trail. Trekkers can get nausea, insomnia, headache, appetite loss, etc., during the high-altitude trek.

To tackle these altitude sickness symptoms, you must trek gradually and rest regularly. You must perform acclimatization throughout the trek. The trek itinerary will remain spread out so that you can travel relaxed.

Since, at a high altitude, the atmosphere has less oxygen and air pressure, acclimatization is essential. One cautionary thing you must do is avoid alcoholic beverages and caffeinated products. You can also take the Diamox tablets as a precautionary measure to tackle altitude sickness.

Remote landscapes

The Kanchenjunga Trek is a remote landscapes trek in the North East corner of Nepal. The Himalayan foothills of the walk take you through a remote region which adds difficulty to the tour. The trail includes the untraversed, virgin territories of the Kanchenjunga region.

You will trek through the narrow cliffs, crossing rivers and water streams. Exceptional strength gets required to traverse through these terrains. Moreover, basic fitness, stamina, and proper training are essential for the trek.

Food and accommodation facilities

The facilities of meals and accommodations are also a difficult factor along the trail of the Kanchenjunga trek. The beautiful tour has accommodation facilities in lodges, teahouses, and even camps along the route. Since you will not get the facilities like in hotels in the city, you will need to manage.

There are just basic rooms in these teahouses. There are no high-end facilities like the EBC trail, including hot showers, electronic charging, Wi-Fi, attached bathrooms, etc. The meal facilities in the tea houses include the Nepalese dish of “Dal Bhat.” It is a balanced diet with many pretty nutritious side dishes.

There are also hot beverages like tea, coffee, hot lemon, hot chocolate, etc. While trekking, you can also carry snacks for the trek, including chocolate bars, protein bars, etc. There are also other cuisines in the teahouses in the region, including momo, chaumein, pasta, noodles, etc.

You can carry extra sleeping bags as the region can get quite cold. You will have to manage toiletries on your own. Hence, this factor can cause significant difficulties in the Kanchenjunga trek.

Long duration trek

The Kanchenjunga trek is a long-duration trek that takes more than two weeks to complete. The trekking journey leads you to a beautiful destination in the most remote landscapes. However, this factor takes a long time to arrive there.

Trekking in the region takes around 6-7 hours each day while covering 8-12 km. Trekking in the area each day for more than three weeks can be pretty tiring for the most experienced trekkers. Hence, it is quite a difficulty along the trail.

Heavy backpacks are another factor that does increase the difficulty along the trail. The trekkers will have to trek in the rugged up and down terrains with a heavy backpack. You can also hire porters along the path so that you can travel with ease.

Unpredictable weather

The weather in the region remains quite unpredictable due to the high-altitude location. It can change significantly in a quick span of time. The beautiful trek also has many weather challenges.

Heavy rainfalls in the region can lead to slippery trails. There are also leech-infested trails due to heavy rainfalls. There are landslides, avalanches, and others in the off-season. Hence, you should trek in the peak season as far as possible.

<img alt=”tented camp at kanchenjunga” width=”1150″ height=”600″ sizes=”(max-width: 1150px) 100vw, 1150px” nitro-lazy-srcset=”https://cdn-aimdc.nitrocdn.com/FbrXgKxnupBRVYozRujieHUXZWIcKXKy/assets/static/optimized/rev-223a50d/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Kanchenjunga-trek-IV.jpg 1150w, https://cdn-aimdc.nitrocdn.com/FbrXgKxnupBRVYozRujieHUXZWIcKXKy/assets/static/optimized/rev-223a50d/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Kanchenjunga-trek-IV-300×157.jpg 300w, https://cdn-aimdc.nitrocdn.com/FbrXgKxnupBRVYozRujieHUXZWIcKXKy/assets/static/optimized/rev-223a50d/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Kanchenjunga-trek-IV-1024×534.jpg 1024w, https://cdn-aimdc.nitrocdn.com/FbrXgKxnupBRVYozRujieHUXZWIcKXKy/assets/static/optimized/rev-223a50d/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Kanchenjunga-trek-IV-768×401.jpg 768w” nitro-lazy-src=”https://cdn-aimdc.nitrocdn.com/FbrXgKxnupBRVYozRujieHUXZWIcKXKy/assets/static/optimized/rev-223a50d/wp-content/uploads/2022/09/Kanchenjunga-trek-IV.jpg” class=”alignnone size-full wp-image-6468 nitro-lazy” nitro-lazy-empty id=”NzU3OjYyNA==-1″ src=”data:image/svg+xml;nitro-empty-id=NzU3OjYyNA==-1;base64,PHN2ZyB2aWV3Qm94PSIwIDAgMTE1MCA2MDAiIHdpZHRoPSIxMTUwIiBoZWlnaHQ9IjYwMCIgeG1sbnM9Imh0dHA6Ly93d3cudzMub3JnLzIwMDAvc3ZnIj48L3N2Zz4=”>

Kanchenjunga Trek Difficulty in Different Seasons

Autumn (September to November)

Autumn is the peak season for travel in the Kanchenjunga region. The winters and the summer-monsoon season are the two main off-seasons in the area. The winter season in the region is from December-February.

There are extreme cold weather conditions in the high-altitude Kanchenjunga region. The cold weather makes the trek quite challenging, especially during the night. Heavy snowfall can make the trails challenging with thick snow along the trails. Hence, it gets pretty difficult to traverse in the winter season.

The summer-monsoon season from June to August is another off-season for the trek. The weather in the summer monsoon is quite hot and humid. Therefore, making it quite challenging to tour the region. https://excitingnepal.com/thangna-to-gokyo/ https://excitingnepal.com/?p=6458

Starting Elevation: 4,700m/15,420ftThangna)

Ending Elevation: 4,790m/15,700ft(Gokyo)

Distance: 4km

Trekking Time: 5-6hrs

After a lovely evening in Gokyo, you’ll trek towards Gokyo and the lakes. The trek will start by ascending upwards on the wall of the valley. You’ll enjoy a fantastic mountain vista along the uphill section. After the uphill section, the glacier and terminal moraine wall will come along. You’ll walk on the terminal moraine to cross the glacier for an hour. It will be a walk to reach from the western side of the glacier to the eastern side.

If it is snowfall time, you will have a white panorama of the region. It is tough to stop watching the view while moving through this part. The route ahead has crevasses; you should take your steps carefully. And in this way, you’ll walk on the Ngozumpa Glacier. It is the longest glacier in the Himalayas, below Mt Cho Oyu- the sixth-tallest peak in the world.

Continuing on the glacier trail, you’ll reach Nha and Machermo village. These two small Sherpa hamlets are eye-pleasing to watch. You can stop here for some rest and interaction. After the villages, you will reach the shore of Tanjung Pokhari, one of the Gokyo lakes. Then you will get to the point where two routes confluence. One goes to Tengboche and Namche Bazaar and another to Gokyo valley.

You’ll choose the one going to Gokyo. The trek will happen on a snow trail; you will love walking on the road with many sceneries to watch. Mt Cho Oyu will steal the show. After walking for some more, you’ll see Dudh Pokhari and the village by the lake coming. It is great to watch the lake and the village from some distance. So you will pause here for some picturesque watch.

Following the scenic pause, you’ll approach the lake and finish the day’s trek. You’ll feel more and more excited to see the lake coming. Dudh Pokhari, also known as Gokyo Cho, is the main lake of the Gokyo Lake system. It sits right below the mountain. And the water of the lake is bluish as it is a glacier-fueled freshwater lake.

Right after arriving at Gokyo, you’ll go to the shore of the lakes to enjoy the cold blow of wind, the blue water, and the mountains in the vicinity.

A day full of hard walking on a glacier will turn fruitful here at the banks of Dudh Pokhara. You’ll spend some golden hours by the lake and a night in one of the lodges by the lake.

Trekking route of this trek: Gokyo Lake Trekking, Everest Gokyo Lake with Renjo La Pass Trek, EBC – Cho La Pass – Gokyo Trek
<template data-nitro-marker-id=”83b926d767a9ed3e82c910cc56deb9c5-1″></template><template data-nitro-marker-id=”126b4ba7a2a45d30e4dadbf0e6b125c8-1″></template><template data-nitro-marker-id=”bb52bf00f6122731c2b82abddfce6306-1″></template> Tue, 27 Sep 2022 07:03:39 +0000Subash en-US text/html https://excitingnepal.com/thangna-to-gokyo/ Everest Guide

You’ll take a cup of tea to the shore of Gokyo Lake to enjoy an early morning view of the Gokyo region. Cho Oyu, Lhotse, Makalu, and even Everest are visible from the site.

After the scenic view, you’ll eat breakfast to do the major thing of the trek. It is time to hike down Gokyo Ri, the best viewpoint of the Gokyo Valley. The mountain atop, with an elevation of 5,357m/17575ft, lies west of Ngozumba Glacier. It is a popular spot for trekkers in the Gokyo Valley.

You’ll leave Gokyo Village for now by joining an uphill section. The walk will go just by Taujan Lake, one of the Gokyo lakes. The hike to Gokyo Ri from Gokyo village is not too long. But it is challenging due to the rough & steep trail. You’ll have a gradual climb through the rocky uphill.

And the moment you reach the top of Gokyo Ri, you’ll have impressive displays of the entire Everest Region. The Gokyo village, Gokyo lakes, and various towering alpines will keep you amazed. Four of the eight-thousanders are visible from Gokyo Ri.

After the fabulous panoramic view, you’ll drop down to the base of Ngozumpa Glacier. You’ll find the narrow side of the glacier and water flowing along the trail. While you descend further, you’ll come across the rough hills of the Valley. You’ll also find some Juniper bushes at the altitude of 4,500m.

The downhill path continues. As you leave the Gokyo valley, the first of the five Gokyo Lakes will bid a farewell to you. You’ll cross three of the Gokyo Lakes while descending to Machhermo. The lakes may be wholly or partly frozen. But the lakes are beautiful, no matter frozen or melted.

After crossing all the lakes, you’ll see Machhermo arriving. The stone walls of the village and several colorful hamlets make the village scenic. And in the backdrop, you’ll find snow-melting high mountain ridges as well. A picturesque view of the village will greet you with a warm welcome.

You will have walked 8km by the time you reach Machhermo. The hamlet lies right in the Dudh Koshi Valley, right below the terminal moraine of the Ngozumpa Glacier. You will settle in the teahouse for the night at the end of the day.

Trekking route of this trek: Gokyo Lake Trekking, Everest Gokyo Lake with Renjo La Pass Trek, EBC – Cho La Pass – Gokyo Trek
<template data-nitro-marker-id=”83b926d767a9ed3e82c910cc56deb9c5-1″></template><template data-nitro-marker-id=”126b4ba7a2a45d30e4dadbf0e6b125c8-1″></template><template data-nitro-marker-id=”bb52bf00f6122731c2b82abddfce6306-1″></template> Tue, 27 Sep 2022 06:56:44 +0000Subash en-US text/html https://excitingnepal.com/gokyo-to-machhermo/ Everest Guide
Dingboche to Lobuche

It’s your safe haven to stay in and acclimatize before heading to Lobuche. Trek from Dingboche starts with a leisurely walk down the trail surrounded by peaks like Ama Dablam, Tanbuche, and Lobuche.

After two hours of journey, the trail descends and comes across the river before following the steep hill. The trek continues until some local teahouses in Thukla come into our sight. Most trekkers stop here to have lunch and take a rest before getting underway.

After half an hour of break-in Thukla, we continue hiking once again. The trail on this section is steepest and gets only harder with the increased elevation. Climbing the trail to Dugla Pass doesn’t get any easier due to the sharp incline and low oxygen.

At the crest of Dugla, we’ll see a memorial park made in homage to lost mountaineers at Mt Everest. With deep sadness, we walk over the memories and trek alongside the Khumbu Glacier until reaching the moraine.

First-time, you can see Kala Patthar and relish the magnificent scenery around. This trek will surely get you more tired than any other days, but it also blesses you with the stunning view of beautiful landscapes, steep valleys, and towering mountains.

Making the way through sharp rocks and boulders, we carry on the way. Like the rock said, we’re 30 minutes away from arriving at Lobuche. The trek from here suddenly gets easier and less exhausting as you feel no pain.

The magnificent view over the distance will keep you busy and excited. After half an hour of trekking, we’ll finally get into the tiny village of Lobuche. It’s spread in a closed area and lies 8.5 km southwest of Everest Base Camp.

The village shares its name with the nearby peaks in the area like Lobuche east and Lobuche far west. It’s usually busy in the month of April when trekkers, guides, and porters travel the region to summit Lobuche.

It may be rugged here, but the village is quite impressive with a wonderful sight of surrounding peaks and glaciers. You can watch the gigantic rock cliffs, flat valleys, and towering mountain ridges from the village.

After enjoying the spectacular view offered by Lobuche, we’ll move into our lodge and check in the room. After freshening up, you can into the dining hall and have lunch while beholding the remote beauty.

For its remote location and poor development, the lodges and teahouses are actually quite nice. They have plenty of facilities to offer visitors and make their stay more comfortable. Climbing the trails to Lobuche often witness trekkers struggling with acute mountain sickness.

They get nauseous and dizzy with a sore headache due to the severe effects of low oxygen. Therefore, you’ll have to be more careful on the trail despite having acclimatized at Dingboche.
<template data-nitro-marker-id=”83b926d767a9ed3e82c910cc56deb9c5-1″></template><template data-nitro-marker-id=”126b4ba7a2a45d30e4dadbf0e6b125c8-1″></template><template data-nitro-marker-id=”bb52bf00f6122731c2b82abddfce6306-1″></template> Tue, 27 Sep 2022 04:46:03 +0000Subash en-US text/html https://excitingnepal.com/dingboche-to-lobuche/ Everest Guide

The trekking trail provides you with an incredible adventure that you need to traverse with caution. The majestic views of the snow-clad mountains and other Himalayan landscapes of the region is quite enchanting.

Dzongla village settlement remains located just below the Cho La Pass. This path of the trek is known for connecting the Gokyo and the Gokyo lakes with the rest of the Everest region. The Gorak Shep to Dzongla required rigorous trekking and takes around 4-5 hours of high altitude trekking.

The Gorak Shep and Dzongla trek begins as you wake up early in the teahouse. You can observe the snow-capped mountains of the region from the teahouse. There you will have breakfast and start your trekking journey for the day.

After taking the snacks and other items required for the trek, you will start your trekking journey to Dzongla. The beautiful walk provides you with the scenic Himalayan vista from the various viewpoints along the trail. The trail to Dzongla requires you to climb along the glacier.

However, as you cross this trek section, you will find a more manageable trail. The Khumbu Glacier is on the left side along with snow-clad Himalayan peaks all around. There are rocky sections as well in this. Therefore, you should trek with proper caution.

The trail then descends as you will lose elevation along the route. You will get views of the Khumbu glacier along the path for some time. The view then gradually disappears as you descend further.

After trekking for a few hours along the trail, you will arrive at Lobuche. You will rest at the tea houses and then have lunch in the teahouse. After resting in the teahouse for some time, you will continue along the trail to Dzongla.

There are two routes split after trekking for around 30 minutes from Lobuche. The left route will take you to Dingboche/Pheriche. Similarly, the right path will take you to Dzongla. We will hence take the right path from this intersection.

The route takes you through the mountainside that leads to Dzongla. You will observe the entire valley’s tranquil views, including Ama Dablam and other snow-clad Himalayan peaks. There is a river along the trail below the settlements of Pheriche.

After trekking through these terrains, you will pass through a region from where you can observe turquoise lakes. You will continue the trail, and after a few hours, you will finally arrive at Dzongla. There you can explore the region after arriving at the village settlement and rest overnight at the teahouse.

Everest region trekking packages that you might be interested in joining: Everest Base Camp Trek, EBC with Helicopter Return, Short Everest Base Camp Trek
<template data-nitro-marker-id=”83b926d767a9ed3e82c910cc56deb9c5-1″></template><template data-nitro-marker-id=”126b4ba7a2a45d30e4dadbf0e6b125c8-1″></template><template data-nitro-marker-id=”bb52bf00f6122731c2b82abddfce6306-1″></template> Tue, 27 Sep 2022 02:59:17 +0000Subash en-US text/html https://excitingnepal.com/gorakshep-to-dzongla/ Everest Guide
